The Interview
Synopsis
On his way to an important interview, for which he is rushing to avoid being late, protagonist John Gumede becomes stranded on a secluded road after puncturing a tire and must pull over to change it. When John gets back into his car, he is held at gunpoint by a mysterious young woman in the back seat, who tells him to hand over his keys and get out. Tables turn as he begins to realize the girl’s desperation and convinces her to let him “first remove the car’s tracker from the boot”, where he plans to fight back and disarm her with the wrench used to change the tire earlier on. Just as he is about to, John turns, not to confront the women, but to see a reflection of himself in the bathroom mirror of the waiting room of the office where he is being interviewed. We then see John sitting across a large executive office desk towards the end of his interview, in which he is rejected. Disappointed, John exits the building and climbs back into his car. He looks into the rear-view mirror where we see the same young woman from before sitting. He lifts an asthma inhaler to his mouth (which
we see earlier in the establishment) but hesitates, puts it down and takes a deep breath before smiling and driving off alone.
